What
is Good News? Good News
is news that is kind, profitable, excellent, morally right, and
praiseworthy.
God's Good News is
the testimony about Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God.
For God so loved the
world that
He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him
will
not
perish but have
eternal life. God did not send His Son into the world to condemn
it, but to save it. God
showed how much He loved us by sending His only Son into the world so
that we might have eternal life
through Him. This is real love. It is not that we loved
God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a
sacrifice to take away our sins. For all have sinned; all fall
short of God’s glorious standard. Yet now God
in His gracious kindness declares us not guilty. He has done this
through Christ Jesus, who has freed us
by taking away our sins. For God sent Jesus to take the
punishment for our sins and to satisfy God’s anger
against us. We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus
shed His blood, sacrificing His life for us.
God was being entirely fair and just when He did not punish those who
sinned in former times. And He is
entirely fair and just in this present time when He declares sinners to
be right in His sight because they believe
in Jesus. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God
is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been
passed on to me- that Christ died for
our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and He was
raised from the dead on the third day, as
the Scriptures said. For if you confess with your mouth that
Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God
raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by
believing in your heart that you are made right with
God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.
As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who
believes in Him will not be disappointed.” For “Anyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
What this means is that those who
become Christians become new persons. They are not the same
anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun!
All this newness of life is from God, who brought
us back to Himself through what Christ did. And God has given us
the task of reconciling people to Him.
For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself, no longer
counting people’s sins against them.
This is the wonderful message He has given us to tell others. We
are Christ’s ambassadors, and God is using
us to speak to you. We urge you, as though Christ Himself were
here pleading with you, “Be reconciled to
God!” For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering
for our sin, so that we could be made right
with God through Christ. As God’s partners, we beg you not to
reject this marvelous message of God’s great
kindness. For God says, “At just the right time, I heard
you. On the day of salvation, I
helped you.” Indeed,
God is ready to help you right now. Today is the day of salvation.
